Today it's an evanescence song, which i am sure you know, because pretty much everyone knows Bring Me To Life. It's one of my favourites of theirs though, and seems apt for my mood today:

So this weeks i have visted two universities, and i thought i would give you my musings on both of them. One word of warning. I have discovered in the past month how expensive Uni really is. the three grand in tution each year is just the beggining. For some universities accomadation for one year can be up to six grand. Plus food. Plus books. Plus sports. Plus societies. Plus going out occasionally. So i say START SAVING! no matter how early, just start saving something! OKay, now onto the universities:
Southampton
Honestly, i was a little underwhelmed by the University of Southampton. Maybe it was because of our tour guide, or the fact that we didn't really look in any of the buildings, i felt like there was something about southampton that just wasn't that appealing to me. The actual main campus is nice, but if i do end up going there, i wont be on the main campus, so i haven't really had a feel for the area i will be studdying in. I liked the look of the library, and the sports facilities are pretty cool, although the swimming pool was a bit to cramped, not much place around the edge. But still, better than some that i have been to! The whole area is on the outskirts of Southampton, so it feels really enclosed, and there are a lot of buildings, including a five floor student union, which looked pretty good, although we only looked at it from the outside. Overall i liked it, but there was nothing which said to me 'You REALLY want to go here'. and the accomodation REALLY didn't appeal to me. After seeing some of the accomadation at other unis, in comparision the rooms were really small, and if you don't go en suite, you have to share 3 showers with 15 people! thats a lot of people!
Overall University of Southampton looked pretty good. Im pretty sure that i am applying there, but it definetely wont be my first choice.
Exeter
I visited University of Exeter today, and boy its nice. I could really see myself there. Only one downside really - its on a massive hill! Its fairly tiring going up and down it, and things are spread out across this whole hill. The uni has really nice grounds, lots of trees and has a really great atmosphere to it. The guide that we had was probably the most helpful out of all of them for me - she was friendly, and i felt like i could ask her questions, unlike the other tour guides. Sport at exeter looks really good, and you can do it at all different levels, and try something new like archery, or rock climbing, so im interested in that. Also if you are really good at sport you can get scholarships. I didn't get a chance to look at the pool, because it is across town on the other exeter campus site, but it has two pools, one outdoor for use in summer and one indoor. Also i will have chance to carry on coaching swimming if i do end up going there.
Overall, I like Exeter, and at the moment its third on my list of favourites!
Hope that was a little bit helpful for anyone looking at unis. Anyway I'm tired and my book is calling, so i will blog again soon!

Bad nights causing teenage blues, get down ladies, you got nothing to lose!
Its been a while since i blogged - mostly real life catching up with me, and the fact that college has finished. I've been catching up on sleep and haven't been able to bring myself to do much. But today i went onto a friends blog and totally got inspired to start blogging again.
So this is going to be a blog mostly about films, because i got a lot to say!

Today's title comes from The Runaways song Cherry Bomb I've fallen in love with the film The Runaways soundtrack, and can't wait for it to come out here in the UK. I'm looking forward to seeing how Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart manage the roles of Cherie and Joan, because they are such characters, who had such an impact on music as we know it. I have high hopes though!
Another film I'm looking forward to seeing is The Last Airbender. I used to watch the cartoon series on Nickelodeon, and am interested to see how the director deals with the characters and the special effects. I admit, i always wanted to be able to control the elements, and me being a swimmer, specially water - so i hope that the 'bending' is done well. And lets face it - its a guilty pleasure film! some of the pre released posters and artwork look pretty cool too.
I've been on a bit of a film watching spree over this past week - mainly because there has been very little on the TV. I watched Batman Begins the other day and enjoyed it so much. The whole superhero genre of film is so interesting and i like how so much is linked together when you look deeper. Like because Superman and Batman are DC comics Gotham and Metropolis are so connected and polar opposites of each other. It also made me want to watch Smallville! I am loving the new series, mainly because of the hints of Chloe and Oliver relationship (which i know happens, due to
the online spoilers, even though we haven't got that far in the series here in the UK). Justin Hartley (Oliver Queen) is my new guilty pleasure - he is soo attractive!
But before this changes into a blog of me sounding like a crazed teenage girl, lets move swiftly on! Another reason i wanted to blog tonight was because i just go back from my brother's swimming training, and i have a lot to say about it!
Being a swimming coach watching someone else coaching can be absolutely infuriating. I watch the coaches, which includes a certain Bob, who you might recall from an earlier blog, and am so frustrated by what they do. You wonder why they miss so much, and if they take it seriously. Last week i watched my brother swim the whole session with his fingers spread wide apart, like jazz hands, and not once did any of the coaches say anything. sounds pretty mundane, but when you know what they are meant to be doing it just gets frustrating! Today Bob was juggling on poolside, and ignoring the swimmers. What kind of role model is that? Not to mention, a swimming pool is a dangerous place. Course, I'm annoyed at Bob for a whole host of reasons at the moment. when he saw me today he commented that i was all dressed up, and looked nice. Sounds innocent, no. Except the last couple of times I've seen him he has said exactly that. And he stares. a lot. And he is ten years older than me. It creeps me out.
anyway, enough of my bitching. I'm going to Southampton University tomorrow for a tour, and so will blog about my experiences when i get back!

"What as me, or as a worm?" Karl Pilkigton quote of the day
Quote of the day:
"Time is a great teacher, but unfortunately it kills all its pupils ..." - Louis Hector Berlioz
Saw this an had a bit of a gigle. So today i had my first mock interview for Cambridge. I actually was surprised by how well it went. First of all i was nervous before the interview - i guess all people are before things like this, even though i know both of the teachers. I got the poem, by Hopkins, and had half hour prep. I don't really know what I was expecting but it definetely wasn't that. It was a poem about a group of trees being cut down at least on the surface, but underneath it was more about the destruction of nature by man during the Industrial revolution - it was really lyrical, and quite interesting.
Once my half hour prep was up i went into the office and they started to ask me questions. It was a lot more informal that i expected, there was just a small table inbetween me and the two teachers. The questions were on the poem to start with, understandably, and i was pretty happy with how that came out, because i managed to make some vaguely intellegent comments (i think??) and there was a lot of head nodding. We then went on to talk about my literature interests, the gothic and Austen.
Afterwards they told me how i did. Aparently i was very eloquent and gave good reasoning for my arguments (i got asked whether Vampire literature has any real merit - which it does!!!!) but i have to be careful not to get led along a path which i have no clue about!
So Mock interview number one went well - i can only hope that the next few go as well.
I am contemplating whether to start posting my original fiction on this blog. I'm definetly going to start posting my fanfiction on here, in the next few days.
Overall my day was actually pretty darn good. History we watched a video from the History Channel on Alexander II of Russia which was pretty overdramatic and generally funny. English we watched a presentation on the BNP (Not Pro BNP obviously) and talked about Romantic Literature. It was all good!
Now i am going to return to watching Notting Hill, and will leave you with this rather happy song

First Musing
So my first blog post. Hopefully this will be an interesting page, with lots of info about what its really like to a college student, a swimming teacher, an aspiring author and a Cambridge hopeful.
Today had college and swimming coaching. College was reasonable, nothing really to get excited about. If I'm honest, i just want the holidays to start so that I can catch up on sleep. After all who volentarily gets up at 6.30 in the morning (apart from my younger brother, who i am convinced owns an energy sucking machine he uses on me at night so that he is full of energy while i am just dazed) I guess i just feel like these four weeks are a waste of time, because people are dropping out and joing left right and centre.
Coaching was interesting.... I normally coach with an amazing guy who used to be my coach way back when. But today he was at his daughters play, so i ended up coaching with a guy who shall be henceforth known as Bob. Now Bob and i have never really got on well - i think that he is a childish arse who says inappropriate things, and he is a childish arse who says inappropraite things. He has upset me in the past over stuff, and so it was interesting coaching with him. Better than i thought it would be. He told me i was the boss, and so i was!
Got an early start tomorow, so i will just leave you with this lovely song - i figure its part of the name so i should show you all what its like. Hopefully i will post a different song each post - widen your musical horizons!
